While I'm still working on a big project (which was going to be my first mod but I'm currently writing that project as a scripted fanfic, but I digress), I decided to make an Audio Mod for Doki Doki Literature Club! as a side project and as my first mod (instead).

The Legend of Zelda (NES) Audio Mod for DDLC! is an audio mod for Doki Doki Literature Club! v1.1.1 (the title was already obvious. :P). I replaced all music and sound effects (except for a few that didn't need it) with The Legend of Zelda music from the Nintendo Entertainment System (not the Famicom Disk System version).

At one time for funsies, I decided to replace 'Sayo-nara' with Zelda 1's 'Game Over' theme and it was hilarious when I was testing it. Then, about some weeks later, I decided to make a full audio replacement mod for the whole game. Of course, since there is a TINY variety of music in The Legend of Zelda (NES) the 'Overworld' theme, the 'Death Mountain' theme, the 'Triforce' victory theme, the 'Ending' theme, and various sound effects), most of the original songs I replaced are a variation of the Overworld theme that I edited in either Audacity or FamiTracker.

Not only that but I also added text bleeps (but they aren't working in Act III on how Act III's script works but Act III is a special act so I let that go). Found a tutorial on that in Ren'py's Wiki: https://www.renpy.org/wiki/renpy/doc/cookbook/Expanded_Text_Bleeps Took me a while to figure out why the other sound effects were not working when textbox audio was operating (the 'channels').

Let me know what you think of this Audio Mod and maybe any suggestions, feedback, bug fixes (such as if a song's looping timestamp is off in a specific part of the game), etc. Although, because I am busy working on a real DDLC! project, I don't know if I'll get to this.

  • Drag 'game' and overwrite the 'game' folder in Doki Doki Literature Club!'s game directory.

  • [Optional but recommended] Delete 'audio.rpa'. (I don't think the original audio.rpa would override the modded ones outside but just in case, it would be a safe idea to leave the original audio.rpa out)

  • NOTE: The 'x-' script files are modified game scripts of the original game. The only changes that were made in those scripts were the loop time stamp of songs. These external scripts do override their original scripts within the scripts.rpa archive of the original game.

Update Log

  • v1.0 (June 30, 2018, 8:00 p.m. EDT): First full release.

  • v1.0-1 (July 31, 2018, 1:21 a.m. EDT): Added a text file with a list of changes I made to each modified script.

Known issues, bugs, glitches, etc.

Need
  • Opening the pause menu or hiding the text menu while text noises are playing continously plays the text noises until resuming.

  • Since there wasn't really a sad Zelda 1 song, replacing 'My Feelings' and 'My Confessions' were tough to replace to keep the feel of the songs.

  • • For now, in FamiTracker, I disabled the percussion noises and high melody and halved the tempo of 'Overworld' (I was also thinking of using the 'Game Over' theme but went with 'Overworld' again... I replaced too many tracks with an altered version of 'Overworld'). That's best I got for now. :P I might replace them unless if you guys have suggestions.

  • Text beeps not working during Act III due to how Act III is coded but I'll let it slide. script-30.rpy has a bunch of coding so I won't make any changes to there (and I'll let the Triforce victory music play twice to let Monika know she lost! lol It'll be a 'feature' instead of a 'bug'!)
